Stable Moments is designed for 6- to 16-year-old children who are or have been in foster care. Young people who have suffered trauma, abuse and neglect have good reason to be distrustful of others. For these children, a horse provides an alternative sentient being with whom they can build a strong, reciprocal partnership.
A trained volunteer mentor and a horse meet 1-on-1 weekly with a child for an entire school year to develop life skills such as emotional awareness, self-regulation, anger management and appropriate boundaries.
