Volunteer Opportunities

How to Apply

Before you can volunteer with any Horse SenseAbility program, you must complete and submit our online Volunteer Packet. You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer.

You must review our Volunteer Manual and sign the Volunteer Manual Statement of Completion before you can start volunteering.

We typically need volunteers to be:

Barn/farm helpers work directly with staff to care for the horses and keep their environment safe and clean. If you'd like to help with barn chores, review the Horse SenseAbility way of doing them in these online lessons before your first shift.

Horse leaders steer and manage the horse during a lesson as needed. The horse leader is responsible for the horse not the rider and must pay attention not only to the instructor's directions but also be aware of the entire team. A leader must have significant, recent experience with horses.

Side walkers provide physical and emotional support to the rider as needed. A side walker must have significant, recent experience with horses.

​

Horsemanship helpers assist participants doing unmounted therapeutic activities such as grooming, learning about equine body language, doing arts and crafts and engaging in educational games.
