Barn/farm helpers work directly with staff to care for the horses and keep their environment safe and clean.
Horse leaders and side walkers walk with and manage the horse during the lesson. Your responsibility is the horse, not the rider. The leader should always be aware of the entire team and directions given by the instructor. A leader must have significant, recent experience with horses.
Horsemanship helpers assist participants doing unmounted therapeutic activities such as grooming, learning about equine body language, doing arts & crafts and engaging in educational games.
Stable Moments mentors meet 1-on-1 weekly for an hour with the same participant and a horse for an entire school year. Horse SenseAbility provides special training, activities and ongoing support to mentors. Stable Moments mentors must be at least 21 years old.
Office helpers assist staff by doing administrative tasks, organizing an event, designing a flyer, posting on social media, contacting local organizations and more. Volunteers with special skills are encouraged to make staff aware of these talents. Office helpers must be at least 16 years old.
Volunteering is also a great way for high school students to perform community service hours!
